about me

Hello! My name is Lawrence Jackson. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and I am the youngest of four children with three older sisters. As the youngest child by at least 12 years, I had a different experience than my other siblings. I believe this unique experience helped me recognize different family dynamics and how families function in healthy and unhealthy patterns. Growing up, my father always reminded me that “you learn more from listening than talking.” Those words of wisdom still apply today as I will learn about you before implementing strategies for change. I believe as a therapist, my approach has to be tailored to every client’s needs because no one size fits all. I believe my training, expertise, and my lived experiences aid me in being a collaborative, inclusive therapist who is invested in my clients’ desires to change.

I have a B.S. in Psychology Pre-Med from Xavier University of Louisiana. After the completion of that degree, I attended University of Nevada, Las Vegas and earned a M.S. in Couple and Family Therapy. Lastly, I received a Ph.D. from Florida State University in Marriage and Family Therapy. This extensive training has allowed me to create expertise within my clinical work and research. I am an inclusive therapist who specializes working with people of color. I have research expertise and interest focusing on parenting, racial disparities, systemic support and asset-based approaches. I have clinical expertise and interest working with individual, couples, and families struggling with relationship conflict, life transitions, non-traditional relationships, divorce, co-parenting, and others concerns. Additionally, I have experience and expertise working with athletes, coaches, and families related to sports performance. I am an active agent of social justice and am a therapist working with the LGBTQ+ community, sex workers, kink communities, and other marginalized communities. I believe that as a therapist I am not the expert of your lives, but rather bring expertise and resources that benefit you through collaboration. Therapy is a resource that anyone can utilize, and I work alongside my clients to transform their investment into change! Because I believe connection in the therapeutic relationship is essential for growth, I bring my genuine and authentic self into the therapy room . If you are interested in my therapeutic services, please inquire about availability.

Additionally, I am also available for speaking events. If you are interested in my services, please complete an inquiry form.
